St. John’s Military School students come to the school with many different educational backgrounds. The school conducts an assessment of the needs of the incoming students with a variety of tools, to include: Measure of Academic Progress test (MAP) and teacher observation. Cadets also have the opportunity to take the Armed Service Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB), ACT, PSAT and SAT. Kansas Computer Assessments are required. Periodically St. John’s conducts academic assessments in order to monitor the Cadet’s progress while he is in attendance at St. John’s.
Faculty advisors, as well as the small class size, play a leading role in identifying individual student needs. However, it is essential that parents provide as much information as possible to St. John’s to fully understand the background and the needs of each Cadet. Academic Advisors meet regularly with cadets and are in frequent contact with the cadets families. This collaborative effort allows us to develop the most effective educational strategy for each individual cadet.
Kansas Honors Program
Each year in October, seniors who rank academically in the top 10 percent of their class, participate in the Kansas Honors Program which recognizes and awards high school seniors for their academic achievements with an awards ceremony and honorary dinner at the Salina Country Club. This program promotes academic excellence in secondary education, and rewards high school seniors for their hard work and dedication.
Each Kansas Honor Scholar receives a certificate and a special edition of Webster’s New College Dictionary, and has a chance to qualify for a $4,000 scholarship to KU.
National Honor Society
The St. John’s Military School Chapter of the National Honor Society was established in 1944. The National Honor Society is a leading organization that recognizes exceptional students. The National Honor Society functions to honor students who have distinguished themselves in four areas: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. Induction ceremonies are held at St. John’s twice yearly during the October and February Parents’ Weekends.
St. John’s Military School earned numerous “Standards of Excellence” awards in the last several years.
